Strategic Leadership

This four-day strategic leadership program brings together public and private sector leaders interested in developing their strategic leadership skills. The curriculum highlights tools and models that help leaders make sense of complex organizational environments.

Participants will hone their thinking and analysis skills and apply insights to real world examples. Ultimately, they will develop more confidence and competence in thinking strategically about modern organizational challenges and developing a positive organizational culture. The program is offered on site in Hatley Castle at Royal Roads University. The picturesque setting offers participants a chance to connect with nature and fully immerse themselves in the curriculum and teamwork throughout the four days.

Who it's for

Aimed at leaders with responsibility for business development and/or organizational strategy, long term planning and the development of strategy or policy. This program addresses tools, techniques and approaches for analysis and planning within complex and dynamic systems.

What you can expect from the program structure

  • Strategic planning tools and techniques, covering traditional approaches such as SWOT to the more innovative such as Scenario Planning, Appreciative Inquiry and Future Search.
  • The challenge of strategy development within a context of complexity and the ever increasing pace of change.
  • Agility and innovation (more tools and techniques) and why they're so important in order to remain relevant and competitive.
  • Approaches to innovation and creativity that will help participants engage others in the development of great strategic plans.

  • Understand the external and internal drivers of business and turn challenges into opportunities.
  • Engage others by involving the right people and using the right tools and processes to develop business strategy.
  • Address business issues in a timely, relevant and effective manner.
  • Explore the impact of values based approaches in developing positive organizational culture and strategy.
  • Understand the impact decisions have across the organization.
  • Influence and engage others in the vision and strategy of the organization.
  • Increase competence and confidence with a range of strategic planning tools.
  • Understand what it takes to plan within different levels of complexity.
