Alison Hendren, MCC
I was working in a Leadership Position at a large Canadian Bank feeling bored. I decided I wanted to do something I was completely passionate about....enter coaching. After research and thinking I knew this was the career for me. My coaching career began in 1996 and in just under two years I attracted an international clientele made up of professionals, executives and entrepreneurs. Executive Coaching was a perfect way for me to leverage my corporate experience as well as my background financing and creating multimillion dollar real estate developments. In addition, being in the early days of coaching I was also involved in educating people around the world about coaching and supporting the growth of this emerging profession. I've chaired one International Coaching Conference for the International Coach Federation (the largest coaching association in the world with members in over 90 countries), spoken at several conferences and created a documentary on Coaching.
So, today 15 years later I am doing two very exciting things: At Royal Roads I am busy supporting the development of new Executive Coaches and work with a growing faculty team made up of successful Executive Coaches who have real life success in the field. We work and meet frequently to constantly tweak, improve, and grow the program. At Coaching Out of the Box® I am working with my team to support people in organizations as well as individuals in learning coaching skills. Our VISION is that EVERYONE learns coaching skills www.CoachingOutoftheBox.com All seven of the B.C. Health Authorities have embraced our flagship program as THE program to bring coaching skills to Healthcare workers. On our non-profit side we are working with an organization called LINGOs (Learning in Non Government Organizations) where we deliver coaching skills training. At any given time we can have people on our classes from Africa, Asia, South America etc.
Coaching is my passion. I've become an uncontrollable coach and it permeates every part of my life. I also have a great love of nature, in fact coaching has allowed me to move out of the city (coaching can be delivered from anywhere a good deal of the time) and live on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia where my husband and I enjoy the more rural lifestyle along with time with my children and grandchildren, hiking, walks in the forest, kayaking and gardening. I also am very interested in how technology is transforming the way we work and live.
One of my most favorite parts of this work is meeting the people who come from across Canada and other parts of the world to become Executive Coaches. Seeing their willingness to experiment, take risks and learn something new is extremely humbling for me. People have told me that I am a very passionate and enthusiastic coaching educator. I get very excited each time I come to Royal Roads and work with a new group of students because of what I see happens during the week onsite both to the students as well as to the faculty. People have also told me that they learn a great deal about coaching and what it means to be a Masterful Coach from me. I have over 10,000 hours of coaching under my belt, yikes! I love the emails I receive from many of our Alumni who take the time to share their successes after they complete the program.
