Marilyn Hamilton

Marilyn Hamilton, PhD, CGA, CSP

I grew up all across Canada, as my father pursued a career in museum management. My formal education includes a B.A. in English, a Diploma in Translation, a Certified General Accountancy Degree and a Ph.D. in 1999, studying how learning and leadership occur in self-organizing online community systems. In my career in the private sector I have held various Senior Management positions, in large organizations and small, regional, national and international, including CEO, COO, CFO and CIO.  Much of my grounding in Community Action has come from my work as a volunteer in a number of NFP and professional associations.

I am Founder of Integral City Meshworks Inc., TDG Global Learning Connections, and TDG Holdings Inc.  I use the integral framework to design change in the city that is ecologically informed and operationally integrated. I am the author of "Integral City: Evolutionary Intelligences for the Human Hive" (2008, New Society Publishers), which offers an integral paradigm to reveal the contexts, individual, collective, strategic and evolutionary life of the city as a living system. I research, design and deliver visionary development programs for people in a variety of learning environments for delivery in coaching, classroom, distance and online modes. These programs explore sustainability, resilience, transformative learning, complex adaptive systems, cities, community, corporate, team and personal capacity building, whole systems thinking, complexity science, scenario and strategic planning, leadership development and performance management.

My passions are designing processes that enable the Human Hive - Gaia's Most Reflective Organ (according to James Lovelock) -  to live sustainably so that we can look after ourselves, look after each other and look after this place/planet. I enjoy being outdoors in all geographies and travelling to cities and eco-regions on all continents to understand and co-create life conditions and cultures so we can evolve as complex adaptive systems. I am inspired to read, experiment, study and practise co-creating learning environments where people wake up to the evolutionary intelligences in the Human Hive.

As a facilitator for urban change, I promote local well-being by creating conditions for global intelligences to emerge in leaders, teams, organizations, sectors, communities and cities. I envision cities as the resilient vibrant habitat of humanity—just as vibrant and optimized for humans as a beehive is for bees. My work focuses on aligning people, purpose, priorities, profits, programs and processes. I mesh intelligences and technologies from integral, spiral dynamics and living system approaches. I facilitate journeys to wellness through personal and group well-being mapping, culture scanning, capacity building, collaboration and interdisciplinary connections. I have supervised more than 50 MA and PhD theses and taught at RRU as Associate Faculty since 1999 in MAL, MALT,MBA and SCD. At  RRU l feel fully alive "living our learning".
